Yes, grip socks can change the internal foot-sock-cleat interface by increasing friction between the sock and the inside of the boot. The important distinction is what that does—and what it does not prove.
A grip sock can reduce unwanted sliding between surfaces when it fits correctly. That can make the boot feel more secure. It does not automatically make a player faster, improve skill, prevent injury or guarantee better match performance.
What Grip Socks Are Designed to Do
Soccer movements create repeated loading, braking and directional changes. Inside the boot, there are several interfaces: skin to sock, sock to insole and foot to the overall shape of the cleat. External grip elements are designed to increase friction at the sock-insole interface.
The outsole and studs still control traction against the playing surface. Grip socks do not increase stud-to-ground traction.
Why Fit Still Comes First
A grip sock cannot correct a cleat that is too long, too wide or poorly shaped for the player's foot. If the boot already has excessive internal space, the first solution is better footwear fit. The sock should refine a good fit rather than compensate for a bad one.
Measured Evidence From Soccer Grip Socks

Thickness Can Change How Grip Feels
Internal traction is only useful if the sock still allows the boot to fit correctly. In a separate five-sock construction comparison, ZERO GIVE® measured 58 g per pair, 3.37 mm through the full sock at the toe and 4.40 mm at the cuff. Those were the lowest values in that tested sample set.

Can Grip Socks Help With Blisters?
Blisters are influenced by friction, moisture, skin condition, footwear fit and repeated movement. Reducing unwanted movement may help some players manage rubbing, but a grip sock should not be presented as a guaranteed blister-prevention product. Persistent hot spots are a reason to reassess boot fit, lacing and sock choice.
Do Grip Socks Improve Performance?
The strongest supportable claim is narrower: grip socks can change friction at the internal interface and can make the foot feel more secure in the boot. Translating that into faster sprint times, improved shooting, better first touch or reduced injury requires separate sport-performance testing.
That distinction matters. Good equipment should reduce an avoidable source of movement without claiming to create athletic ability that the player does not already have.
